Meet Anastasia Katueva, an artist and fashion designer hailing from the small, scenic country of Estonia. For Anastasia, art isn't just a career; it is a state of being. She jokes that she started drawing before she even started speaking or walking.
Her journey began with a childhood fascination with people and animals, drawn in a cartoonish style with large eyes and crazy colours. Over time, this evolved into a passion for realistic portraits. While she purchased her first iPad in 2022 to dive into the world of digital art, she hasn't abandoned the raw feel of traditional media.
Anastasia describes her signature style as 'messy and dynamic.' She intentionally leaves draft lines visible in her finished works. To her, these lines are not mistakes; they preserve the history of how the art was created. 'Freedom of thought,' she explains, 'is an opportunity to craft a vision without being locked into frames.'
This philosophy of freedom naturally bled into her transition into fashion design. It began with shopper bags and has evolved into a deep exploration of abstract patterns.
Anastasia recently created a series of five abstract designs, created in a state of flow where she felt like a viewer rather than a creator. Importantly, none of these patterns have a specific meaning. She wants the viewer to define the beauty for themselves, rejecting the pressure to make 'correct' decisions or follow monotonous trends. Her designs invite you to listen to your inner voice rather than the narratives society imposes on you.
