For former architecture student Ytremia, the rigid walls of structural design were too confining. Seeking creative freedom, she turned to the world of 3D modeling. For the past two years, she has been experimenting with Blender, utilizing the accessibility of the open-source software to build a new world—one focused entirely on delicious aesthetics.
Ytremia has always been obsessed with food. Her reasoning is simple: 'Because who doesn’t love food?'
Her journey began with a childhood fixation on a specific piece of ham from Tom and Jerry, which she recalls looking 'so… juicy… and plump!' That cartoon ham sparked a desire to recreate aesthetically appealing food. She started analog, crafting paper-maché cakes and meat dishes that she would marvel at in her yellow lunchbox. Unfortunately, the real world has consequences, and her creations eventually rotted.
While the paper-maché fiasco dampened her spirits temporarily, her passion was reignited by the movie Ratatouille—specifically the unforgettable visualisation of flavor, where grapes and cheese merged on screen. Today, Ytremia constructs digital food that creates that same sense of wonder, but with one major advantage: her digital creations stay fresh forever.
Beyond movies, Ytremia found major inspiration in the world of gaming, specifically Genshin Impact. Food plays a prominent role in the game’s story arc, but Ytremia felt the 3D models were often 'low-poly' and didn't do the delicious designs justice.
Taking matters into her own hands, she used Blender to recreate the dishes with the fidelity they deserved, creating the 'Teyvat Charred Egg' as one of her earliest models. What started with a YouTube tutorial on a 3D strawberry-glazed doughnut has evolved into a mastery of procedural texturing and lighting...
